Literature Circle

Hi everyone, welcome to other ones of my reflections. Today I would be talking about the Literature Circle that we did today.

If you don't know what we do in a Literature Circle, it is basically when we all are in a group and we have jobs like the Connecter and Work Master. We all have a book to read. My book is called, One Biy and his Dog. We would have to read up the chapters that have been decided and do our job. Once we have done all that, we would meet up as a group and share our work that we have done for our jobs.

Today was our first ever Literature Circle this term and it went great. I don't know how the other groups went but I'm pretty sure they went great!

My job was to recap all that I have read so far. It wasn't that hard of a job. I founded it super easy. My friend Margaret founded it kinda hard but I don't blame her.

I wasn't nervous when we did our Literature Circle. The book I was reading was super interesting and I wanted to share what I founded out so far about it.

A little recap of the story:
This boy wanted a dog for his birthday but never got one. His dad decided that it would be a great idea fo rent a for the weekend. Does the boy get a dog for real? Does he encounter the dog as part of his family? You guys really need to read this book to find out.

Ok guys, this comes to the end of my reflection. Hope you enjoyed! Bye for now!!!

The Olympics!

I have two choices on what I want to do went I go to the Rio Olympics.

My first thought was netball. I already play netball and go and represent our school in our netball games but I want to represent New Zealand with netball. I find it a interesting sport and its really easy to understand. I also want to know why men don't play netball as much. Men could play netball, not just girls.

You don't have to have much skill with netball. It is all about getting the ball and shooting it. It's simply! Its similar ti basketball expect your players have didn't positions. Netball has more rules like the goal shooter has to stay in the yellow area. I find that netball is a fun sport and I really want to represent New Zealand with it.

My second thought was running. I like running and I think it would be a awesome idea to represent New Zealand. Running is a easy sport. It may not be as much fun but to some people it is. Running could make you feel refreshed. Every morning, a lot of people run. This is great way to start off anyones day.

If you train your hardest, you could go ahead and run you heart out. Many people find running hard and they don't encourage themselves to run more and more. Running is great way to get fit. If you want to get fit, run during break times. If you believe in your self, you will differently, see a different. If you put your self to the limit, you could even run 5k.

It is amazing to see people representing New Zealand. Heaps of people are able to go to the Olympic games. Everyone person that plays is so inspiring. They show us that we could do anything and if you put your self to the limit, it is a great knowing you could do it.

Oobleck iExplore

So, Aleena and I have presented our Number System iExplore and I am now working with Mervlyn for our Oobleck iExplore.

If you don't know what Oobleck is, it is a cornstarch and water mixture. The most interesting thing about this mixture is that it acts like a solid and a liquid. When you punch it or put in your finger really fast, it is just like punching a rock. If you put in your finger really slowly, it is like when you touch water, so it acts like a liquid.

Mervlyn and I were interested in Oobleck because we wanted to know how it was discovered, who was the first person to make it and why does it act like a solid and a liquid. We have many more questions but those were our main ones.

Our plan is to let some people have a chance at making Oobleck and asking them what they think about it. Does it feel weird or like slime. All that stuff.

Mervlyn and I are planning to make it ourselves and describing what we think it feels like. I think its gonna feel similar to slime but a lot cooler.

What I know so far is that:
- it acts like a solid and liquid
- the water compounds are a lot smaller than the cornstarchs
- its fun to play with
- it has a putty texture
- it melts in you hands
- there are many cool things you could do with it like put plastic wrap on a beat boax and then put the Oobleck on the plastic wrap and last, turn on the speaker and watch it move around and so awesome things.

Things I want to learn:
- why does it act like a solid and liquid
- what is this type of mixture called
- who first discovered it
- why does the cornstarch and water react this way

There are many other things we want to find out but here are out most interesting thinkings.

I really think this is a gonna be a great iExplore. Its gonna be a blast and hopefully, our habitat is looking forward to what we have installed for them.

The Number System:

This term, my iExplore is about the Number System. I'm working with Aleena for this one.

We are about finished. All we have to do is inbed our information to our slide or presentation and then we are ready to present. We are still making up our mind if we want to present to the whole class or just our learning coaches. We just don't know yet.

Before our iExplore was even thought up of, Aleena and I wanted to do, 'How was the number zero invented', then Ash (one of our friends) suggested that we should do the whole number system. I thought that it was a great idea and we have stuck with that idea until now.

We chose this iExplore because we wanted to learn te history of numbers and how they were discovered. I found it pretty interesting because no one had ever thought up of this idea yet. I wanted to learn more about numbers cause, well, we use numbers everyday and some of us don't really know how our base 10 number system was created.

Did you know that we use a base 10 number system in normal life and then we use a base 60 number system for time. Cool right!

I think this wasn't Aleena and I's best iExplore, but we still had interest in it. We could have thought up of a fun science experiment. That would've been cool.

Here is a interesting fact about numbers:
The number 0 wasn't in our number system before. It was then thought up of Hindu mathematicians. So, zero wasn't in our number system back in the olden days.

My next iExplore would be with Mervlyn. We are doing a science themed iExplore. We are researching about this cornstarch and water mixture. I think its gonna be cool. We are planning to give some people a experience with this strange mixture and grab their opinions about it. I think Mervlyn and I are gonna make it successful. Hopefully everyone likes it!!!

I hope you enjoyed this blog about my iExplore. This was pretty interesting to talk about. What do you all wonder?

The Beep Test!!!

Today we did a Beep Test. This test is to test our fitness and how much we could run scuttles during a preiod if time.

We used the courts and I must said, the courts was giant so it did take some time to run there and back to where we started.

We ALL did it and I wish we didn't because I fell behind at the back of the line so it was kind of tricky. I wish we did it in our hapu groups. Lucky we didn't do it one by one because it would take a long time and we would probably be judged by others on how we did.

I now want to run more and do the Beep Test again and see if I've improved. I must said it wasn't the most funest thing we've done but it was fun cheering on our friends.

I felt tried when I finished. I didn't get too far but I think I did ok. If we weren't able to make it to the start line until the next beep went on, we would have to call it a quit and we are out.

My friend Aleena did the best! She is a good runner so that might explain why she enjoyed it so much. She wasn't the one out of our group that dreaded it. She was excited for it. I was speech less and I wondered how she did it.

Now I've set my goal to do more scuttles when we do the beep test again or the cross country which is coming up.

It was amazing to see my class mates and my friends do amazinf job at it. I was able to set myself a goal on how much I could run next time by just seeing what my friends and class mates have done.

I was only able to run up to a Level 3 number 6. I could see some ways I could improve.

Zavier was the only one left after everyone was done. He did a amazing job and I can't believe he ran that much. Have did he do that?! Anyway, Well Done Zavier!!!

My Next Steps:
1. Encourage myself and tell myself I could do it
2. Believe in myself
3. Know that I wouldn't be the greatest runner but I tried my best
4. Set goals for myself so that I could improve set by set in my running

Here Are Some Ways You Could Improve On Your Running:
1. Practice makes prefect
2. Train at home and around your neighbor hood
3. Ask two friends to watch you race and ask them for some things they could improve
4. Ask friends to help you out

So thats todays reflection. I hope you enjoyed!
