Party Plan Problem #2
Party Planner
Jasmine, Taanvi, Vrishti and Prisha
Jasmine - I think it went well. Our group worked collaboratively and we were able to work out our total amount. The downside to our group was that, we sometimes split up and we also sometimes disagreed on some things. Otherwise, we worked well. We all learned how to work together effectively, had equal air time and also we learned how to subtract and add decimals.
Taanvi - For collaborating i give 8/10 because at some times we went wondering to another group but we still had time to share our ideas and we also made our party creative. We made our game creative by adding a candy scavenger hunt and get to play charades.
Vrishti - My opinion in this activity was positive because we all participated equaly and we had a lot of creativity in our final copy! but sometimes we would walk to other groups and waste our time talking and mucking around.Overall I would say we collaborated effectivly and used our time wisley as we had a limited amount of time.
Prisha - I liked how we did the sequence of the party to go with it to show that we had planned a proper party and just not the budget. Aside that the collaboration wasn't quite good. Because when Vrishti was sharing she didn't know what to share. So that clearly told us that we weren't good collaborators

The Party Problem
During maths this week, we worked in groups of four and tried solving a party plan problem. Our goals were to figure out what we could buy under the budget of $50. We also needed to worked out how many people we were serving and how much we would get of the items we were buying. There were e.g cups, different sized pizzas and party hats.
We also needed to find a way to be creative and have our own thinking.
My group was Vrishti, Prisha and Taanvi. I think we worked together pretty well. We were able to agree on things and we were able to work together to solve it.
At the end, we presented our work and was also able to look at other groups thinking and see what they did as well.
I learned how to be creative and do things my way and how to subtract and add money/decimals and also be able to plan and look at the cost for my party. My group also learned how to work together or be Collaborative.
I want to continue working collaboratively and also keep on learning how to add, subtract, divide and times decimals.
The connections that my group made is that, decimals are similar to ratios. Like we used one thing to eight people - 1:8.
What we all learned about decimals:
Decimals could be converted into fractions and percentages
1/10 or 10% or 0.1 is all similar to each other
Decimals could be equivalent to fractions and percentages
Decimals could be added, subtracted, times and divided and could be changed into another decimal
So that was my groups party planning. I would rate my groups collaboration a 4 out of 5 because. We did spit apart from time to time but still did lean in and have equal air time/talking time.

The Boy On The Top of The Mountain
Hi everyone! Today's blog is about a literature circle book that my group and I are reading. Here is a summary of this book:
Chapter 1: Three Red Spots on a Handkerchief
The book first talked about Pierrot's family and his best friend Anshel. Anshel was born deaf so Pierrot and him created a sign for each other. Anshel gave Pierrot the sigh of a dog while Pierrot gave the sign of a fox for Anshel. Pierrot would also help Anshel with his stories that he writes. Pierrot's mother rarely talks about her husband but Pierrot could imagine him as a tall man who would mimic the sounds of a horse. Pierrot's mother was also a French while Pierrot's father was a German. One day, Pierrot's mother had something a long the lines of a change reaction. She coughed non-stop and one day, while she was coughing into her handkerchief, when she pulled it away, there was three res spots of blood on it.
Chapter 2: The Medel in the Cabinet
This chapter talks about the Durrand sisters, Adele and Simone. They grew up in a large mansion about eighty miles away. Their parents owned a orphanage where they take care of children that's lost their familys or parents. After they died, the Durrand sisters took charge of the orphanage and did the same things as their parents. Pierrot's mother then died of a disease and his father died after he fell under a train. Pierrot was then sent to the orphanage.
Chapter 3: A Letter from a friend and A Letter from a stranger
The orphanage wasn't that great. The beds were thin and hard ad the food was plentiful. Pierrot was also bullied by a boy named Hugo. He really didn't like it. Hugo threatened Pierrot to give him five francs or he would continue to bully him. Pierrot didn't accept so Hugo lashed out his fist and punched Pierrot directly on the nose and he fell to the ground. At the end Josette went and told the Durrand sisters what had happened.

In this chapter, it talks about Pierrot being sent to his aunt Beatrix's house. He goes a train three times. This first stop is Mannheim. Josette is sort of upset that Pierrot is going and she was also sort of curious about Pierrot's aunt. In his first train, there was this mother and son sitting in one of the carriage. A tall man dressed in black came and sat at the fourth seat. The lady didn't enjoy it and the conductor thought he was creating a big problem so he kicked him out. His second stop was Munich. Before he got on his train, he tripped over a man also in black and Pierrot recovers himself at the end. He is put in a carriage with these older kids and one of them steals two of Pierrot's sandwiches that he was sent with for his journey. The boy ate the first one in three big bites and started on his second one. His last stop was Salzburg. In the train, he starts reading a book called Emil and the Detectives and he found that Emil had some common things with himself. When his journey was done, there comes up a lady saying that she is his aunt.

Pierrot woke up the next morning to find himself in a room. He was changed in his nightgown and everything was gone. He suitcase and clothes. Counting Cogs
This week, LH3 did a maths activity called Counting Cogs.
Our first step was to colour in one tooth on the paper cogs. My group was Aleena, Ash and Vrishti. We each got two. We needed to find which cog tooth fits into a empty space on the other cog prefectly. We then had a piece of paper and we wrote down which pair worked and which didn't.
Our challenge was to find which cogs fit. We found that 5 and 7 didn't work because it is times to a odd number. 6 and 8 did work because they times to a even number. So we found that even and odds mattered.
We all got help from this digital tool linked on our maths design. It lead us to this 'app' that lets us experiment with the different sized cogs. My group found it cool and really easy to work with. It helped him a lot.
We then wrote on our poster which cog pairs worked and which didn't and our 'conclusion' that we found.
I think my group worked really well. We exchanged ideas and we listened to eachother so our work became successful.
What I want to do next is to learn how the cogs work and how thy fit together. Like, is there a different why to solving it and how else could we check it instead of the timings method.
Over all, this activity was really fun and cool and it got my mind going on how the cogs worked. I also think that it was amazing to work with other people because I could exchange ideas and we could help each other. I also liked how this activity was a lot different than our other maths activity.

Character Description
My character is called Cotton. Here is my description about him:
Cotton has ocean blue eyes, he has tiny lips but is talkative. He wears a white suit and has glasses. He has gleaming teeth and is petite. He has fluffs of cotton as hair. He has a smiling mouth and a button nose.
Cotton is a cool fluffy guy. He's kind, caring and friendly. He is always happy and always smilely. He's smart and loves reading so he's just a book worm. He's helpful and adventurous, but shy. He is sensible and thoughtful. He's careful and charming but daring. And lastly, he's brave and is up for any challenge he comes upon.
His background story:

Motat
Today the year 6 and 7s went to Motat. We had a fun time there and we got to see items from the olden days.
The day started when we all got on the bus and rode off to Motat. When we arrived, we went to our meeting space and our instructor Nik, told us what the day was going to be like and the rules while Mrs Jensen told us our group's.
My group's first area was exploration. We got to explore Motat and we even went to go see Leonardo Da Vinci machines that he created and used for himself. We went to a convention area as well and it had some rooms that had different as-specks. There was even one room with a giant eye ball! It wasn't THAT creepy. There was even a room where you could watch someone game on a large screen. It was awesome! Plus, we got to see 3D creations that the instructor had created. They were creative and cool. There was also a upstairs area with tech stuff which wasn't that interesting.
Our second lesson would be in the classroom. Nik talked about items that improved and why people invent stuff. Like someone founded that white flies were attracted to his yellow t-shirt so he invented a yellow fly catcher that flies are attracted to. We got to look at the improvements of the telephone and moblies and even cameras. We got to try a typewriter, write with a quill and also write on a sleet board. The only down side to a typewriter is that if you make a mistake, you need to restart the whole thing or either choose to use a ink correcter.
After we had lunch while the other group went to their lesson.
Lastly, we went exploring again and we saw different conventions and even a crystal ball that if you put your hand near it, it looks like you are conducting eletricly. We just walked around and we even saw the old steam room. My favourite working item was this caged chair where you pulled a rope and them let go and you would go down. There were two different kind. One that went down really slowly and the other fast.
So that was our Motat trip. It was so much fun and a big thank you to Nik and the learning coaches who made this possible. This trip was incredible!! There is much more I could talk about but I don't want to make this blog too long so bye for now!

Native Birds:
Hi everyone and welcome to another amazing blog reflection! Today would be a very different topic. Its gonna be about the natives bird puppets we created!
At the beginning of our project, we had to get into a group of 4. Of course I went with some amazing people. Aleena, Mervlyn and Margaret. They are all very creative and would make our puppet look bird-tastic. After we got into our groups, we planned. We wanted to make a owl but at the end. . . . . We founded out that we needed to make a bird that is native to our planet so last minute, we made a kiwi but at the end, someone took our kiwi and we just decided that it would have been best to just continue with our owl. It turned out, pretty good I think.
Two days after we planned, we were ready to create. We used a empty paper towel roll and we made a head by crunching up pieces of baking paper and stuffed it into a smooth piece of new baking paper. We hot glued the end so it wouldn't come apart. We then stuck it onto the top of the paper towel roll. We used a marker to draw a owl looking face. It looked pretty similar to a owl I personally think.
We then made the wings. We collected some feathers to stick onto our wings to make them feel and look more realistic. We drew a wing shape that we all liked and cut it our and stuck it onto our owl body or base. We stuck on some feathers which gave it a realistic feel and look. My group ended up using red and blue feathers but it was our choice and I think it looks pretty cool.
Our finish product looks similar to a owl but not that close. We have the owl wings, face and the realistic look and feel of a real owl. I think it turned out cool! What I like about it is that we chose a different bird instead of the kiwi that many other groups were making. We added our own touches and we put a lot of thought into it.

The Box Method
Last week and this week, workshop 3 have been using the box method to solve timetable problems. This week, we are focusing on disivon in parts and using the strategy for bigger numbers.
If u don't know, the box method is a super easy strategy that you could use to solve multiples. We would need to draw out a three boxed, box and fill it in. For example, if you have the problem, 8 x 123, you would need to draw a three boxed box. On the left side, write the one digit number and on top of all the boxes, write down the number places for the three digit number. For example, 100, 20 and 3. Then times it and write your answer in the boxes, so, 800 in the hundreds box, 160 in the tens box and 24 in the ones box. All you have to do now is add all your answers together. The final answer for the question is. . . . . 984! Its easy as that,
I founded this strategy helpful because it was super easy for anyone to use. I learned it quickly and founded that I could help others from workshop 1 and 2 also learn the strategy. They also founded it cool and quick to do.
What I want to learn next with this box method is, use it to help me solve 2 digit and 2 digit problems. I want to learn how to use it fpr disivon in parts.
Over all, I think this is a great strategy to use for maths and is super quick to learn. I think anyone could use this. I really also enjoyed learning this method and founded that instead of writing down the boring way of doing it, I could now show a different method and also I now know a new strategy and I could now add it to my interactive journal.

Oobleck!
What is Oobleck?
Oobleck is just a mixture of cornstarch and water. It acts like a solid and a liquid.

Well, the cornstarch particles are bigger so they move a lot slower while the water particles are smaller and move a lot quicker. Plus, the cornstarch is a lot more densed than the water.
Where did the name OOBLECK come from?
There was once a Doctor Seuss book called Oobleck and that's where the the name OOBLECK came from.
What is Oobleck used for?
A lot of people have fun with Oobleck. Some people even walk on Oobleck! That's crazy isn't it? Well the over all answer is that people use Oobleck for fun. Some people as use Oobleck to find out more about it like why does it act like a solid and liquid.

Literature Circle
Hi everyone, welcome to other ones of my reflections. Today I would be talking about the Literature Circle that we did today.
If you don't know what we do in a Literature Circle, it is basically when we all are in a group and we have jobs like the Connecter and Work Master. We all have a book to read. My book is called, One Biy and his Dog. We would have to read up the chapters that have been decided and do our job. Once we have done all that, we would meet up as a group and share our work that we have done for our jobs.
Today was our first ever Literature Circle this term and it went great. I don't know how the other groups went but I'm pretty sure they went great!
My job was to recap all that I have read so far. It wasn't that hard of a job. I founded it super easy. My friend Margaret founded it kinda hard but I don't blame her.
I wasn't nervous when we did our Literature Circle. The book I was reading was super interesting and I wanted to share what I founded out so far about it.
A little recap of the story:
This boy wanted a dog for his birthday but never got one. His dad decided that it would be a great idea fo rent a for the weekend. Does the boy get a dog for real? Does he encounter the dog as part of his family? You guys really need to read this book to find out.

The Olympics!
I have two choices on what I want to do went I go to the Rio Olympics.
My first thought was netball. I already play netball and go and represent our school in our netball games but I want to represent New Zealand with netball. I find it a interesting sport and its really easy to understand. I also want to know why men don't play netball as much. Men could play netball, not just girls.
You don't have to have much skill with netball. It is all about getting the ball and shooting it. It's simply! Its similar ti basketball expect your players have didn't positions. Netball has more rules like the goal shooter has to stay in the yellow area. I find that netball is a fun sport and I really want to represent New Zealand with it.
My second thought was running. I like running and I think it would be a awesome idea to represent New Zealand. Running is a easy sport. It may not be as much fun but to some people it is. Running could make you feel refreshed. Every morning, a lot of people run. This is great way to start off anyones day.
If you train your hardest, you could go ahead and run you heart out. Many people find running hard and they don't encourage themselves to run more and more. Running is great way to get fit. If you want to get fit, run during break times. If you believe in your self, you will differently, see a different. If you put your self to the limit, you could even run 5k.
It is amazing to see people representing New Zealand. Heaps of people are able to go to the Olympic games. Everyone person that plays is so inspiring. They show us that we could do anything and if you put your self to the limit, it is a great knowing you could do it.
